KatsinaTimes | Lokoja, Nigeria –

Troops of Operation Egwua A Tite II have recorded major successes in ongoing clearance operations against bandits in Kogi State, neutralising scores of terrorists and dismantling several hideouts.

The operation, launched on 1 September 2025, is led by the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, with support from hybrid forces and air assets. According to Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the troops have continued to sustain momentum in flushing out criminal groups terrorising rural communities.

On the opening day of the offensive, troops of the 126 Battalion, under the Commanding Officer, engaged bandits in the Tunga general area. Two bandits were killed in the firefight. Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, Commander of 12 Brigade and Force Commander of Operation Accord III, later led follow-up operations which destroyed several camps while patrols and ambushes were intensified to dominate the area.

On 2 September, acting on credible intelligence, troops with close air support from the 405 Helicopter Combat Training Group launched an air strike on Ankomi, killing scores of fleeing bandits.

The following day, clearance operations extended to Aleke, Ungwan Soni, and Ungwan Nyaba communities, where soldiers rescued Mr. Pabo Suleiman and his two children. The victims were safely reunited with their family. Troops also recovered five locally made dane guns during the operation.

Further successes were recorded on 5 September during a fierce gun battle near Tunga, where a notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Bala, and five of his fighters were eliminated. In a separate ambush the same day along Agbede–Adankoo Bridge (Mosalanci Boka), troops intercepted and neutralised a bandit logistics courier. Items recovered included a motorcycle, two mobile phones, and an AK-47 magazine loaded with 20 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

The Nigerian Army says operations will continue until all criminal elements are flushed out and peace is restored to Kogi State communities.
